I rarely notice these red exit signs. I always thought it was silly to put them way above doors. When in a rush for an exit in a new space I usually look for door knobs and steps. 
Do people inside of buildings really look up in emergency situations?
I would like to read more on this. I have the feeling it’s simply done because its easier and cheaper.
